Two Yarns - One Skein

I have to start all over.

This skein of Tofutsies was full of pieces knotted together. Look at the sock, you can see where the yarn actually changed. I did e-mail SWTC and was promised a replacement skein. So now I'm waiting for it to arrive.

I picked up Knit Lit (too) at the library the other day. The first story in the book had me in stitches. You've got to read about the sock knitter who thought she could knit while ice skating. It is hilarious!

I have completed one sock in my whole life and am about to complete the first sock from a LYS sock class. The two socks will not make a pair. So two more socks are in my immediate future before I can start the Jigsaw. (I don't want to give in to the second sock syndrom.)

Yeah! I finished my Jigsaw socks! My oldest daughter liked them so much I have decided to give them to her at Christmas. Thanks for having me in this knit-along, I had fun making these socks and plan to make more!

Finally Started

It took awhile, but I finally cast on for the Jigsaw socks. I'm using Tofutsies yarn. I was in Windsor Button Shop (which has a great yarn selection), saw the skein, and just couldn't resist. It looks more like the cotton blended yarns, but has a much softer feel to it. I just started yesterday, and already had to frog back to the ribbing once...I was going into Boston with my sister and niece to meet up with my parents. We were going to have a picnic by the Hatch Shell (by the Charles River), as we listened to a live concert with the Boston Landmark Orchestra - that was the good part of the evening and went quite well. Unfortunately, while trying to knit on the subway, I messed something up, and just couldn't quite figure out what I had done. So after we were all comfortably spread out and had munched our sandwiches, fruit and cookies, I dug out my knitting, ripped out the stitches (my niece, whom I'm teaching to knit, was both horrified and fascinated at the process), and started again. Once I was knitting the pattern a second time, it flowed more easily. This is a fun pattern - one that I think I will really enjoy knitting.

I really enjoyed this pattern. I love this yarn too. I had lots left from the second ball, almost half. Considering it is a textured pattern, it did not use much yarn. Lorna's Laces Shepherd in Black Watch.

Here's my socks on Lorna's Laces "Gelato" so far. I finally got the size 2 circs I needed and now the pattern fits me perfectly! I have one more repeat on the cuff and then it's onto the heel, yippee!

I've got one sock finished, and I am almost ready to start the decreasing for the toe. When I finish I'll post a picture of them. Mine look a little different from what others are posting. Somewhere I didn't get the directions right - the 30 or so rows knit before the heel turn mine look like just straight knitting, whereas others have a different look. I think it was that "tbl" that through me. I work at a paint store and tbl stands for Thalo Blue there! (yes, yes, I am new to this) Anyway, it came out fine. This has been so fun. Thanks, Carrie!

Just want you to know - I not only signed up for the KAL, I actually do plan to knit the socks. I have the pattern and the yarn, I'm just waiting for enough time to start. I have one or two small projects to finish first.

My socks are finished! We were on vacation in the U.P. of Michigan. Sock #1 was finished just after we crossed "Big Mac" (on the way up). Sock #2 was finished in Marquette (on the way down). It was a great pattern and I LOVE THE SOCKS! They actually fit me.

Question regarding sizing ...

Is anyone trying to increase the stitches for this sock? I normally knit my socks on 72 stitches ...

Does this sock have a lot of stretch to it?

My First KAL

This is my first pair of socks using a pattern other than straight knitting. I am using Panda Cotton in the color Sable. I really like this yarn for this pattern. Quite surprising for me, the sock is even turning out quite a bit like the picture!

I ended up switching to Lorna's Laces Black Watch colorway yarn for my Jigsaw socks. I have completed the first two repeats.

Okay, it's near impossible to take a picture of these socks. My camera does not want to focus for anything. Between the busy pattern, and the busy colorway, my camera refuses to comply. Growl!!! I just love the way this pattern is working up. I must admit, I've dropped a stitch or 2 twice, and picking up was not easy. Had to back knit several rows. Even after dropping a stitch, I ended up with 5 extra stitches (I'm sure it was my yarn overs). I'm always up for a good challenge though, so these socks will not get the best of me!

I'm using LL in the Uptown colorway. It's working it nicely. 1/2 of the sock looks mostly purple, and the other 1/2 looks mostly blue. I like funky stuff like that though, so I'm not minding at all. I do have a thicker ankle then some, so I did cast on 70 stitches instead of 60. Here's hoping it doesn't prove to be too complicating when I get to the foot.

Eeewww, this Jigsaw yarn is not working out at all. I am going to frog it. I think I will try Lorna's Laces White Chocolate or Fearless Fibers Sublime (or both). The Jigsaw Heirloom is like a self fair isle yarn or something and it is harsh feeling like Trekking XXL.

I am casting on tonight. I meant to cast on before my copy of The Deathly Hallows came but I did not make it. All done with that, so I can focus on my knitting. I cannot wait to start this pattern.

Here is my sock so far! I'm loving this pattern! (except for when you do the YO at the end of the round). So far so good with the 2 circ's (my first attempt) We'll have to see how it goes for the gusset!

I have a skein of Knit Picks Bare (superwash of course) that I dyed using the lace gradation technique that I plan to use for these socks. I call it "Not Merlot (if anyone orders bleeping merlot, I'm leaving)" and it ranges from light pinky to deep wine. I still have to wind it up, so it might take a few years!

I still have a few UFOs I need to wrap up, but I am raring to go.

Like Leslie, I, too have Lorna's Laces yarn bought especially for these socks. The colorway I'm going to use is "Gelato". I'm casting on today and will get some pics soon.
